Grass Heads Art

Here’s an art project that really feels like spring. Dirt, water, and seeds, it doesn’t get much better. Also these are super easy, so get ready for a fun art class!

Supplies

– Small glass jars
– Paint markers, face stickers/googly eyes
– Soil
– Fast growing grass seeds ( I used Catgrass, it’s an oat mix)
– Water

Grab your jar and put a face on it. Stickers will probably be the easiest to use, especially for small children. Paint markers work really well too. If you’re scared of mess-ups, just keep some paper towel and alcohol close by for an eraser.

Once you’ve given your jar some personality, add the soil. Make sure you water it good so it settles in and has enough moisture to swell the seeds. Add a liberal layer of seeds and cover with a light layer of soil. Set on a window sill and wait for grass to grow!

Once your grass is a few inches tall, grab a scissors and give your grass head a hairstyle. Messed up? Good news! In a few days you can give your grass head another hair cut.

Option: Plant different herbs in the grass heads for a window sill herb garden. Just don’t cut off below the lowest set of leaves if you want it to regrow.
