Be Still & Know

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. (Psalms 46:10 KJV)

Do you know that feeling when the snow is falling and it’s so quiet outside you can hear the snowflakes hitting the ground? Or the feeling on a winter night when it’s perfectly silent you look up at the sky and see all the incredible stars? Those moments feel like everything is perfectly still.

Psalm 46:10-11

God says to be still and know who He is.  How does being still help us know who God is?

When we’re just going about living life, sometimes we forget to think about God. But when things get quiet like a staring at the stars on a dark night or sitting under a tree some afternoon, we think about God.

God wants us to take time to be quiet and do nothing and just think about him. So let’s take some time and think about Him.

How do we know who God is?

Colossians 1:16

God is the Creator. He made everything. He made the Earth we live on. He made you. He made the endless universe full of stars. He made the tiny, beautiful snowflakes.

Isaiah 41:10

He is YOUR God. You aren’t supposed to be afraid because He will make you strong.

1 John 4:16

God is love. All love comes from Him. If you love others, you live in God and God lives in you.

Psalm 86:5

God is good and merciful. He forgives you when you do wrong.

2 Samuel 7:22

There is nothing bigger or stronger than God. He is greater than anyone or anything else.

Psalm 46:11 says “The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.” The God that is greater than everything is with us. He is our safe place to go and our protection.

The last part of Psalm 46:10 says, “I will be exalted in the earth.” Exalted means glorified or praised. We must praise God for who He is.

So when everything is quiet and still, think about God. Think about who He is and how He cares about you. And then praise Him for it.
