Matthew 27:57-28:20

Jesus had been dead three days. He had carried the sins of the world. His friends were devastated. They didn’t understand yet. He said He was the Messiah and yet He had died. Why hadn’t He saved Himself? Why hadn’t God saved Him? The disciples hid behind a locked door. The two Mary’s were coming to put spices on Jesus body – one last honour they could pay Him.

But little did any of them know. Early that Sunday morning, Jesus had come back from beautiful heaven to His beat up and broken body. Life poured into it again and it began to breathe. And somehow it became more than an ordinary body. It was real but nothing could hold or hinder it now. Death hadn’t won. Jesus power had conquered death. He laid aside the clothes His body was wrapped in. The little stone cave with a sealed door was no obstacle. He stepped through the impenetrable and into the glorious morning light.

The earth trembled and shook. The Messiah, the Saviour of All was alive! An angel came down from heaven and rolled the stone away from the tomb. The guards fainted in terror and lay as if dead. And up the slope came the two women to anoint Jesus.

They saw the angel sitting on the stone by the open grave. He told them not to be afraid but to come and look at the empty tomb. Jesus was gone! The tomb was empty! The grave clothes were left behind. They were so exited and yet terrified too. They left to tell the disciples and on the way, Jesus met them. They fell down and worshipped Him. He was truly alive!

John 20:18-31

Jesus came to His disciples while they were still in hiding. Closed doors didn’t hinder Him at all. He just appeared in the room to His disciples surprise and excitement.  He showed them His scars. He proved it really was Him.

And then He said, “Blessed are those that believe without seeing.” Because belief in Him is how we can claim that eternal life He has provided.

John 17:1-5

Jesus prayed this pray before He died. He knew even before He was killed that would have power over death. He knew He that through His sacrifice, as many as would claim it could have eternal life. God answered His prayer and glorified Him. He is our Saviour. The only way we can get to God. He took away our sins, gave us power over them, and has given us eternal life in heaven.
